Vaccination boost for economic frontliners in Penang [NSTTV]

BAYAN LEPAS: The on-site vaccination centre (PPV) at Plexus Manufacturing Sdn Bhd here kicked off on Wednesday to boost vaccinations involving the industrial and manufacturing sectors.

With the opening of the on-site PPV, some 17,000 economic frontliners from 25 companies, including Plexus, are expected to get their vaccinations.

Among them was Plexus employee, T.W. Ying, in his thirties, who expressed gratitude for the arrangement made to get vaccinated earlier.

"Indeed, I feel more comfortable after getting my first dose. With the number of Covid-19 cases climbing higher, I feel more at ease now.

"Nevertheless, with the vaccination, of course we still need to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) in place," he told the New Straits Times when met today.

The PPV at Plexus has a capacity to administer 1,500 doses per day. It operates 12 hours daily from 8am to 8pm.

According to Victor Tan, regional president for Plexus' APAC region, the running of the PPV has been good so far, adding that he is glad that the team has done a good job.

He said they have a group of 25 companies in the manufacturing sector, including Plexus, involving some 17,000 employees, participating in this initiative under the Public-Private Partnership Covid-19 Industry Immunisation Programme (Pikas).

"Based on the current availability of vaccines assigned to Plexus, we have signed up to vaccinate 17,000 people in the industry, including Plexus team members, suppliers, vendors, partners and other manufacturing companies in the vicinity," he told the NST.

Tan said, in Plexus' case, their priority has always been their team members' health, safety and wellbeing, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic period.

"Other than this on-site vaccination initiative, we actually conduct proactive targeted swab tests for at least 500 to 800 team members weekly.

"This initiative aligns with Plexus' Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) commitment to be a responsible employer and a community partner," he added.

It was reported late last month that about 1.99 million doses of vaccine were needed to inoculate workers in the manufacturing sector under the Pikas programme between this month and September this year.

About 2.25 million workers in the manufacturing sector were targeted to be vaccinated under Pikas.
