Walk-in vaccination for senior citizens kicks off

PUTRAJAYA: Walk-in vaccination for senior citizens started today at vaccination centres (PPVs) under the Health Ministry.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the administration of the vaccines also includes public integrated PPVs and hospitals in the Klang Valley.

"Today, we have received walk-ins among senior citizens to get vaccinated at PPVs under the ministry, integrated PPV, and hospitals.

"However, as of now, only PPVs under the ministry can accept walk-ins.

"Mega PPVs, as stated by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) yesterday, were not ready yet (to accept walk-ins) as there are several matters that need to be resolved," he told BH.

Dr Adham said based on discussions with Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister (Mosti) Khairy Jamaluddin, the Health Ministry was ready to provide the vaccine for walk-ins at PPVs under the ministry.

"We are confident that we have sufficient doses for all PPVs."

Meanwhile, commenting on the walk-in vaccination itself, Dr Adham said senior citizens will be given the vaccination first, before asking them to register via MySejahtera.

"Some of these senior citizens might not have MySejahtera or were previously registered as dependents.

"As such, when they turn up at PPVs to get inoculated, we will give them the vaccination first before registering them via MySejahtera.

"We are using the same approach that was used in Sarawak and it is the fastest method to ensure all senior citizens in the Klang Valley get vaccinated," he said.

When asked on measures taken to avoid congestion at the PPVs, Dr Adham said with the strict standard operating procedures (SOP) at public PPVs, he is confident that the situation will be under control.

"Only a handful of senior citizens have yet to get vaccinated and we have already looked at all the factors (before announcing the walk-in vaccination).

"I am confident there will be no congestion at the PPVs. With the SOPs in place, we are ready to accept walk-ins for those above 60," he said.
