KUALA LUMPUR: The ongoing walk-in vaccination initiative in the Klang Valley will be expanded to vaccination centres (PPV) nationwide.
The Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) in a statement today said the move was in line with efforts to further improve the nationwide vaccination programme.
The statement read Perak, Kedah, Sabah, Melaka, and Sarawak had started commenced their respective walk-in initiatives for senior citizens, while Kelantan had opted for vaccination based on pre-booked inoculation sessions.
"Details on the implementation of walk-in vaccinations will be informed by respective state CITF and health department. This includes daily vaccination schedule and walk-in quota at PPVs for each state."
Walk-in vaccinations is targeted at the elderly, the disabled, individuals with comorbidities aged 18 and above, as well as teachers and contract support service workers at educational institutions under the Education Ministry.
"It is also reserved for individuals who had missed their second dose, where they can go to the nearest PPV or can be referred to another PPV if the same vaccine as their first dose was not available."
Walk-in vaccination in Klang Valley began on Aug 2, with priority given to those above 40 and people with comorbidities.
Meanwhile, CITF said Klang Valley residents who did not belong to any of the stated categories, but wanted to walk in for their first dose despite having no appointment, can do so at eight PPV that were listed previously.
"Walk-in vaccinations at the previously listed PPV will no longer start at 2pm, but according to the operation hours of the respective PPV.
"Pregnant women are not encouraged to walk-in as they will be given appointment date in MySejahtera according to their estimated date of delivery and suitable PPV."
CITF said the number of daily walk-ins depends on the vaccine supply at the PPV.
"If all the vaccines have been dispensed on the day at the respective PPV, those who did not get the vaccination will be given priority to get vaccinated the next day."
In the same statement, CITF also urged the public to adhere to the standard operating procedures and cooperate with the staff at the PPV.
"This is to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection and ensure a smooth process of vaccination and safety at PPV."
