KUALA LUMPUR: Zamratulazmi Sarmadi, 38, was relaxing at home in Batu Caves when he received a call from the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL) vaccination centre (PPV), requesting him to arrive early for his second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Not suspecting anything amiss, he did as requested and arrived by 2pm.
As it turned out, he was the one millionth recipient of the AstraZeneca vaccine at the PPV.
To mark the occasion, Zamratulazmi was invited on stage by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who congratulated him.
He was also given the honour of being administered the second dose of the vaccine by Deputy Health director-general (Research and Technical Support) Datuk Dr Hishamshah Mohd Ibrahim, who was clad in full personal protective equipment (PPE).
Zamratulazmi, a photographer, was awestruck by the moment.
"I thought it was going to be a simple ceremony but I was starstruck at sharing the stage with the prime minister," he said.
He also offered a word of advice for those who have yet to be vaccinated.
"To those out there yet to be vavcinated, you have nothing to fear. It is for our own good to protect ourselves from Covid-19.
"We do our part. The rest we leave it to Allah," he said.
Ismail Sabri congratulated the WTCKL PPV for achieving the landmark one million doses.
The PPV was established on May 5 specifically to administer the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
WTCKL was Malaysia's first mega PPV and began with an initial 8,000 doses daily and later upgraded to 18,000 doses.
WTCKL executive director Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim said that the PPV administered its one millionth vaccine dose on its 115th day of operation.
He paid tribute to the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti), Health Ministry, Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) and Malaysia Vaccine Support Volunteers (MyVAC) for their roles.
He said that the PPV will operate until Oct 3.
"It is a proud moment for us to achieve the feat in a month when Malaysia is celebrating its 64th year of independence.
"WTCKL is ready to continue to operate beyond Oct 3," he said in a statement.
