More than 2,000 Orang Asli in Kelantan including pregnant women vaccinated

KOTA BARU: More than 2,000 Orang Asli in Kelantan have been inoculated in a series of Covid-19 vaccination programmes in their respective settlements.

Kelantan health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussins said 1,600 of them already received their vaccine doses in the programmes held in Gua Musang last month.

The remaining, he said got their vaccine jabs during a four-day programme which ended today.

"Last month's programme and the latest exercise which ended today were jointly organised with several agencies such as the Fire and Rescue Department and the Gua Musang district office.

"The number of Orang Asli receiving their vaccine jabs was beyond our expectation and this showed that they are willing to be inoculated as they realised the importance," he said.

Dr Zaini said the Orang Asli were vaccinated either with the single-dose CanSino vaccine or the two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

He, however, believed there were still those from the community yet to be vaccinated.

"We will conduct more outreach programmes in the coming days and this time, we will co-operate with the Army.

"This time we will go to the Orang Asli posts and settlements that have not been reached yet," he added.
