KOTA BARU: The government's allocation for a new stadium in Kelantan under the recent 2022 Budget will be spent wisely for its infrastructure and various sports facilities.
State Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations committee chairman Wan Roslan Wan Hamat said the new stadium would be in Bukit Merbau, Pasir Puteh.
He said the construction of the multi-sports stadium was important as preparations for Kelantan to host the 22nd Malaysia Games (Sukma) in 2026.
"Phase l of the stadium will start soon and we expect the project to be completed in 2025 or before the Malaysia Games start.
"Once completed, the stadium will provide facilities to several sports including the 16 main sports that need to be contested," he said.
Wan Roslan said the 16 main sport facilities would include the hockey field, shooting range, and aquatic centre.
He thanked the government for the allocation to build the new stadium for the state which was announced in the Budget.
Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz when tabling the 2022 Budget recently said the Budget would provide RM159 million to build, upgrade and maintain sports facilities nationwide.
The amount, he said, was allocated for the construction of a stadium in Bukit Merbau, Pasir Putih, Kelantan which would include various sports facilities such as hockey field, shooting range, and aquatic centre.
