KUALA LUMPUR: The Keluarga Malaysia Job Fair, that is part of the Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia (AKM) event, is a good opportunity for jobseekers to find their future careers.
Business major graduate Naim Feroz, 24, said attending the job fair enabled him to physically meet representatives for companies he was aiming to join after graduating.
"The pandemic has hindered many things. I couldn't even apply for an internship placement at companies I want to work for in the future.
"I was not able to meet people and learn properly, but that is an experience I will treasure forever. But events such as this job fair would mean a 'new normal' situation is possible, especially for jobseekers like me.
"The job fair is a great start for me to make connections for my future career path," he said at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here.
Another jobseeker, Nurul Hidayah, who graduated before the pandemic hit, said she hoped to find a job at the fair.
"For the time being, I have a part-time job but I would love to get a job that is stable for my future.
"It was hard to find a job during the pandemic because everything was held virtually. Now I can physically meet prospective employers and make a good impression without having to rely on slow Internet connection."
Student Nurul Syahirah Sharulhizam, 21, said she was just tagging along with her friends to the event when she found out there was a job fair.
"To be honest, I am here to accompany my friends. I am glad to know there is a job fair so I can check it out since I need to know what are the possible career paths that I can take.
"I am not prepared today but at least I can start taking notes and, perhaps, come again tomorrow and share my resume with the companies I am interested in," she said.
The three-day Keluarga Malaysia Job Fair, which ends today, is organised by the Human Resources Ministry via the Social Security Organisation (Socso). The event is open to the public.
On Friday, Socso chief executive Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said there were at least 75 employers from various sectors and industries participating in the job fair.
"It is estimated that 24,100 jobs are being offered at the job fair. The event is organised by Socso in conjunction with the 100-Day Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia.
"Other job services provided at the job fair include assistance to register on the national employment portal, MYFutureJobs; resume workshops, career briefings and free job search guidance by Socso employment services officers.
"Those who want to join the job fair can pre-register at www.myfuturejobs.gov.my/careerfair, or call Socso's hotlines at 019-250 3565, 019-607 9532 or 019-607 8905."
