KOTA BARU: The state government has described the monsoon floods which hit Selangor and Pahang, similar to the huge floods that hit Kelantan in 2014.
"The floods which hit Selangor and Pahang are beyond the expectation of many and the incident is very unusual compared to before.
"The situation in the two states reminds us of the huge floods in Kelantan in 2014.
"With the 2014 experience and by the will of God, we are ready to face any eventuality of another round of floods in Kelantan," Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob told reporters after flagging off Khidmat Malaysia's mission to help flood victims in Pahang.
Also present at the programme were Khidmat Malaysia chairman Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff, state Khidmat Malaysia chairman Wan Roslan Wan Hamat and state welfare director Said Sidup.
Ahmad, who is also Pasir Pekan assemblyman, said all the relevant agencies are prepared for another wave of floods to hit the state which is expected to be worse compared to the last one.
On today's programme, Ahmad said a total 1,500 volunteers from several government agencies in the state would be deployed to help the victims in Pahang.
"The Kelantan government has allocated about RM100,000 for today's programme and the money was from the state Disaster Fund.
"This group will go to four areas in Pahang including Jerantut and Bentong to help with the clean-up," he added.
