KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia registered 3,386 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the fresh infections raised the national tally to 2,761,472 since the pandemic hit the country in 2020.
"There are 3,040 local cases, involving 2,895 Malaysians and 145 foreigners and 346 import cases with 330 of them Malaysians and 16 foreigners.
"Of today's new cases, 3,340 of them are patients in Categories 1 and 2 while 46 are Categories 3, 4 and 5," he said in a statement this evening.
He added that there were 273 cases being treated in the intensive care units (ICU) nationwide with 202 of these ICU patients having tested positive for Covid-19 while the rest were suspected, probable and under investigation.
159 patients, he said, had been put on ventilators and 86 of these patients had Covid-19 while the remaining 73 were suspected, probable and under investigation.
Dr Noor Hisham added that the country logged 3,547 recoveries today and five new Covid-19 clusters, bringing the numbers of active clusters nationwide to 215.
