KUALA LUMPUR: The Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB) chairman Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang is hoping for all issues related to the ownership of shares by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki can be resolved immediately.
Abu Zahar, who has been heavily criticised for allegedly being in favour of Azam, said the matter needed to be resolved immediately for the sake of public order as the country was still struggling with socio-economic problems due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
As such, he said, the relevant authorities should expedite the investigation into the allegations.
"If this continues, it will not be good in terms of public order as the country is still facing Covid-19 and the people out there are having a difficult time.
"This uncertain crisis will only cause more people to feel disappointed.
"Therefore, if possible, please speed up the process; be it investigation or to establish anything (independent investigation bodies). Just do not prolong this," he told BH today.
Yesterday, Abu Zahar at press conference said he was ready to be investigated following his statement on Jan 5 on the ownership of shares in various companies by Azam.
Abu Zahar said he also left the matter to the absolute discretion of the government and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to decide on his position as ACAB chairman.
