Decision on Ramadan bazaars by end February [NSTTV]

IPOH: Any decision on the opening of the Ramadan bazaar in Ipoh this year will only be known by the end of this month, said Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.

Rumaizi said the applications received by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) from traders regarding the rental of the Ramadan bazaar site this year were very encouraging.

He said, however, due to the Omicron variant, any decision on the opening of Ramadan bazaars would only be decided during a meeting at the end of this month.

"Due to the Omicron variant, there may be changes in terms of standard operating procedures (SOPs) that must be followed.

"I can't talk anymore now because it will be chaotic later. But so far, God willing, the Ramadan bazaar in Ipoh will continue," he told reporters during a corporate social responsibility programme to assist storm victims at Taman Tasek Damai here, today.

Also present were Perak Agricultural Development Corporation (SADC) chief executive officer Yahanis Yahya and Perak Agriculture Department director, Norsiyenti Othman.

On the programme, SADC provided agricultural inputs involving 30 seedlings such as banana, papaya, and jackfruit while the department distributed 40 coconut seedlings and 52 sets of nutripot to the affected residents.

On Jan 30, 100 trees fell and 219 homes were damaged during a tornado-like freak storm in Kampung Tawas, Taman Tasek Damai, Taman Desa Seri Chepor and Kampung Seri Klebang Tambahan Jaya.
