Keluarga Malaysia Insurance Scheme for 268,000 heads of underprivileged families

KANGAR: The federal government has approved a RM13.4 million allocation to introduce the Keluarga Malaysia Insurance Scheme that will benefit 268,000 heads of underprivilege families nationwide.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in announcing the sceme today, said the participants will be selected among headd of families registered in the Welfare Department's e-Kasih database.

"Under this Keluarga Malaysia Insurance Scheme, the head of families registered in the e-Kasih system are to be covered with insurance scheme with a RM50 premium annually.

"In the event the head of family passes away due to natural causes or if they suffer permanent disability, the family is entitled to RM10,000 benefit. In the event that the head of the family dies from an accident, the family is entitled to RM20,000 benefit.

"At the same time, PRU-Takaful BSN through its corporate social responsibility has been providing RM30,000 worth of insurance coverage for head of families registered with e-Kasih since 2018," Ismail Sabri said in his speech at the launch of 'Jelajah Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia' Perlis in Kangar today.

Present were Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Anuar Musa, Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

The three-day carnival is being held at the Tuanku Syed Putra Sports Complex.

In his speech, Ismail Sabri also announced that he had approved RM5 million allocation for the Perlis government to carry out feasibility studies to build a new ferry passenger jetty terminal in Kuala Perlis.

"I was informed by Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man about the Kuala Perlis jetty's issue of shallow waters and the state government wishes to carry out feasibility studies to build a new ferry passenger terminal jetty in Kuala Perlis.

"I am happy to announce here that I have approved a RM5 million allocation for the feasibility studies and based on the findings, we will decide later whether it is possible to proceed with the proposal," he said.

During the event, Ismail Sabri also launched the Keluarga Malaysia Community Ambassador programme, a volunteer initiative to promote health protocol compliance in communities.

"To ensure that SOP and guidelines continue to be observed, I am launching Keluarga Malaysia Community Ambassador programme, a volunteer-based programme which aims to inculcate self-discipline in our community as we are shifting towards the endemic transition phase.

"The community ambassadors will be stationed at crowded public areas and confined areas. They will also help to ensure that information disseminated to the public is accurate and presented in a well-mannered approach," he said.
