38pct Malaysian children receive first dose of Covid-19 vaccine

KUALA LUMPUR: A total 1,353,370 or 38.1 per cent children aged 5 to 11 in Malaysia have received the first Covid-19 vaccine dose under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids), the Health Ministry's CovidNow website reported.

Meanwhile, 44,376 children in the age group have received the second Covid-19 vaccine dose.

A total 2,855,208 adolescents aged 12 to 17 (91.8 per cent) have received two doses, with 2,953,452 or 95 per cent having received at least one dose of the vaccine.

The website also reported a total 15,888,368 adults have received their booster dose as of yesterday.

A total 22,955,102 adults (97.6 per cent) have received two Covid-19 vaccine doses, while 98.8 per cent or 23,232,340 individuals have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Yesterday, a total 25,487 Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered, with 2,631 of them being the first dose, 11,755 second and 11,101 booster doses, bringing the total number of vaccine doses administered under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme to 69,069,817.

On Covid-19, there are currently 162,216 active cases in the country.

Of the total, 158,343 cases or 97.6 per cent are placed under home quarantine, 373 (0.2 per cent) at Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centres; and 3,279 others (two per cent) are hospitalised.

There were 300 Covid-19 hospital admissions in the Klang Valley yesterday, with bed utilisation currently at 58.8 per cent.

Selangor recorded the highest number of daily admissions at 225 (bed utilisation rate in the state currently at 64.6 per cent), while Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya registered 44 and 31 new admissions, respectively.

Other states and federal territories also reported new hospital admissions of Covid-19 patients yesterday, namely, Johor, 168; Kedah, 51; Kelantan, 35; Melaka, 14; Negri Sembilan, 24; Pahang, 29; Perak, 81; Perlis, nine; Penang, 30; Sabah, 87; Sarawak, 58; Terengganu, 18; and Labuan, two.

Malaysia's Covid-19 death toll stands at 35,192, with 32 more fatalities recorded yesterday.

The ministry reported nine brought-in-dead (BID) cases, bringing the tally to 7,434.
