Malaysia condemns Friday attack on the Al-Aqsa mosque

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia strongly condemns the Friday attack by Israel Occupation Forces on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Occupied Palestinian Territory's East Jerusalem, which left more than 150 people injured.

Expressing Malaysia's grave concern over the attack, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob described the action by the Israeli troops which took place in the holy month and at one of the holiest sites for Muslims, as a continuation of its assaults and apartheid policy against the fundamental rights, lives, livelihood and dignity of the Palestinians.

Therefore, he called on the international community to renew its commitment towards a lasting solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

"While the international community is justifiably appalled by the violence taking place elsewhere in the world today, it must not disregard the systematic and untrammelled acts of aggression of the Israel Occupation Forces against Palestinians of all faiths in their own land," he said in a statement today.

It was reported that tear gas and stun grenades were fired by the Israelis troops when they stormed into the mosque as worshippers gathered for their early morning prayers.

Malaysia, said Ismail Sabri, would work closely with members of the international community seeking peace and justice for the Palestinians, and lasting peace in the Middle East at all relevant multilateral platforms to effect practical and positive change in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Ismail Sabri also reaffirmed Malaysia's unwavering support for the Palestinians and their cause for achieving freedom from the Israeli illegal occupation, and realising their aspirations for an independent State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as their Capital.
