Kelantan-Thai border tourism activity almost back to normal [NSTTV]

TUMPAT: After two years of inactivity due to Covid-19, Kelantan border in Pengkalan Kubor is now alive with business and tourism activities.

Apart from visiting the famous duty-free zone, Malaysians are seen crossing the border to get to Tak Bai town for weekend shopping.

Many boarded the ferry service provided by a Thai private company as the passenger boats had yet to operate.

Syahirah Alwi, 27, from Kota Baru said she and her friends headed to Tak Bai sub-province to spend their weekends.

"It has been a long time since we came to the border town and it is a great feeling to be back," she said.

Checks at the Pengkalan Kubor ICQS showed people in long queues at both immigration's entry and exit counters.

The ferry operates from ICQS here to Tak Bai jetty and back for five times a day, from 10am to 5.30pm.

The Thai-Kelantan border reopened early this month after being shut for two years to curb Covid-19 transmission.

All three Kelantan's lCQS complexes are now fully operating after the border reopening.

Previously, the ICQS at Rantau Panjang was only open to commercial vehicles.

Malaysian travellers are required to follow the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by Thai authorities when entering the kingdom.
