Sign up with Malaysia Contractors Portal, Sabah contractors told

KOTA KINABALU: Contractors in Sabah have been urged to register with the Malaysia Contractors Portal (MCP) to enable the government and private sectors to search their profiles.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup said the portal, launched by Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), will also allow contractors to gain access to all government agencies registered with the MCP.

"The MCP also provides a contractor report card (CRC) for the public as well as government agencies to search for the contractors and access their profiles.

"CRC provides detailed information on the registration status and performance of contractors registered with CIDB," he said during the launch on a contractor registration seminar and presentation of special awards to contractors and manufacturers at a hotel, here, today.

He said CRC is important to enable agencies and project owners as well as the public to check the background of a contractor company.

"This will ensure that only qualified contractors, having a good track record and being able to complete a project properly will be selected to complete the construction project," said Arthur.

The benefits of being registered with MCP will enable the contractors to participate in the CIDB's various programmes such as the CRC, the Competitiveness Rating for Enhancement (SCORE) and Micro Competitiveness Rating for Enhancement (MCORE), among others.

On the Safety and Health Assessment System in Construction (SHASSIC) in Sabah, he said in 2021, only one project was evaluated and achieved a very good score of 96 per cent.

As for the Quality Assessment System in Construction (Qlassic), he said eight projects were evaluated in the state last year.

"Two projects got a score of 85 per cent, which is a very good achievement as it showed that local contractors can produce excellent quality construction to compete with others out there."

Arthur also assured that local contractors will be given priority to carry out government projects.

"For the Pan Borneo Highway project phase 1B, our policy and principle is to give priority to local contractors."

However, he said local contractors must have the qualification in terms of skills, workmanship and be financially strong to implement projects awarded to them.

Meanwhile, CIDB Malaysia deputy chief executive 2, Mohd Zaid Zakaria said there are about 13,000 contractors in Sabah registered with CIDB and most of them are small-scale companies which need to be guided.

However, the numbers of contractors registered with MCP is still low, perhaps due to the lack of exposure, he said.

During the event, ZBN Group Holdings Sdn Bhd won the state contractor excellent special award for five-star rating.

Other companies were also mentioned for their achievements in other categories. They were Zafran Enterprise (MCORE), Menang Tinggi Sdn Bhd (QLASSIC), Grand Dynamic Builders Sdn Bhd (SHASSIC), Leppo Concrete Sdn Bhd (ready mix concrete) and KTI Sdn Bhd (industrialised building system score for housing).
