BENTONG: Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong says there can be no more changes to the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, even if a new government is elected.
Responding to rumours of the upcoming general election, he said even a new transport minister could not effect or implement changes to the project.
"Once the minister has signed the railway scheme, where the locations of the stations are, and other details have already been published, it must be complied with as per the Parliament Act.
"Though there is a government takeover, it has to carry out what it inherited," he said at the launching ceremony of a tunnel boring machine for the ECRL project at the Genting Tunnel site here today.
According to the 14th parliamentary schedule, the Parliament is due to be dissolved in July next year.
In a recent interview with Nikkei Asia, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was quoted as saying that now would not be the right time to hold a general election.
