Covid-19 admissions per 100,000 population rose 10 per cent

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population admitted into hospitals and low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC) have risen by 10 per cent between June 26 and July 2.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed this when announcing infection figures for the 26th epidemiological week (EW26).

He said the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to hospitals per 100,000 people increased 22 per cent compared with EW25.

"Hospitalisation of Category 1 and 2 patients rose 31 per cent. For Category 3, 4 and 5 patients, it rose 13 per cent."

On the hospital bed-use rate, he said: "The use of normal beds increased four per cent, use of intensive care unit (ICU) beds increased two per cent and use of PKRC beds increased one per cent," he said yesterday.

He said the number of patients requiring ventilation support rose by 0.2 per cent in EW26.

He said the number of patients visiting Covid-19 Assessment Centres (CAC) increased 28.5 per cent, from 5,043 to 6,478 patients.

"Cases referred to PKRC fell 93.8 per cent, but the percentage of patients referred to hospitals increased by 50 per cent."

He said the number of cases being monitored by the Virtual CAC rose from 34,639 to 43,203.

The average daily active cases, he said stood at 28,956 in EW26, a 3.4 per cent increase from the previous week.

He said daily new cases rose 6.1 per cent from 15,739 to 16,694 cases in the week.

The average infectivity rate, or Rt, fell 0.9 per cent in EW26.

Malaysia recorded 2,536 new Covid-19 infections yesterday, bringing the cumulative total to 4,573,891.

The ministry recorded 3,123 recoveries and five deaths on the same day.

The number of active cases now stands at 29,793, involving 28,508 patients in home quarantine, 1,221 at hospitals, 45 at ICUs and 19 at PKRC.

Yesterday, 432 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospitals.

Of the number, 132 were recorded in Selangor, 75 in Johor, 72 in Sabah, 28 in Sarawak, 25 in Kuala Lumpur, 18 in Kedah, 17 in Perak, 13 in Penang, 10 in Negri Sembilan, nine in Melaka, seven in Kelantan, three each in Perlis and Terengganu and two in Pahang.
