SOPs for Covid-19, influenza in schools when necessary, says Radzi

PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry (MoE) may activate standard operating procedures (SOP) whenever necessary following the rise in Covid-19 and influenza cases recently.

Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said any activation of safety and health protocols must be done upon advice by the Health Ministry (MoH).

"We have learned so much in the past two years and will continue to adhere to the existing protocols and approaches (outlined) by the Health Ministry.

"We want to ensure that despite a slight rise in cases (in schools), we can continue with the school sessions in a safe and orderly manner.

"We have all (safety protocols), and we can activate the SOPs after referring to the ministry.

"Any decisions taken will be based on discussions with the ministry," he told a press conference after officiating the Malaysia Little League 2022 at Taman Pancarona Mini Stadium here today.

Also present was Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Malaysia recorded an increase in Covid-19 cases in the recent weeks.

According to data by MoH, there was a 23.4 per cent increase of Covid-19 cases from 21,355 to 26,355 in the 28th Epidemiology Week (ME28), compared to the previous week.

The country recorded 3,080 Covid-19 cases yesterday.

Surveillance for influenza-like illnesses (ILI) also increased by 8.5 per cent from 10.6 per cent in the 26th Epidemiology Week (ME27) to 11.5 per cent in ME28.
