Call for PM's Dept unit to tackle debt woes

KUALA LUMPUR: Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) president Datuk Nadzim Johan has proposed that a coordination centre be set up to address debt concerns.

"A coordination centre under the Prime Minister's Department should be set up to address matters related to missed loan payments.

"This (missed loan payments) is closely related to other financial problems."

He added that if the issue was not addressed, it could lead to greater problems, such as eviction or car repossessions.

"We (PPIM) are pleased and willing to work with the Prime Minister's Department to implement this.

"The centre can help resolve about 80 per cent of debt problems."

He said applying for a loan and repaying took time, especially now as the country transitioned to endemicity, which sees people needing more money to buy necessities.

"We hope this centre would be set up to help Malaysians."
