KUALA LUMPUR: The Higher Education Ministry has announced that Dr Mohd Zahari Ismail has been appointed as the new director-general of the Polytechnic Education and Community Colleges Department effective today.
Zahari, 57, is an economy graduate from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and a Certifice in Education from Maktab Perguruan Temenggong Ibrahim (MPTI) in Johor Baru.
He then went on to pursue further education at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) where he obtained a Masters in Business Administration before earning his PhD in Management from the University of Hull in the United Kingdom.
Before this, Zahari served as the director for Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (PSA) since July 2018.
He has also held the post of director at Politeknik Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (PTSS) from Feb 2016 to July 2018.
Prior to that Zahari held the post of academic deputy director at Politeknik Balik Pulau (PBU) from February 2010 till December 2011.
The ministry, in a statement, said it firmly believed Zahari's vast experience and expertise that he has garnered over the years will enable him to lead the department to greater heights as a leading pioneer in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
The ministry also took the opportunity to express the highest gratitude and appreciation to Zahari's predecessor, Zainab Ahmad, for diligent service in leading the department.
