KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he was honoured that Indonesian president Joko Widodo was among the first foreign leaders to congratulate him as the 10th Prime Minister.
Anwar, who was sworn in this afternoon, said the president's call reflected Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta's close ties.
The president, also known as Jokowi, was heard over Anwar's speakerphone as saying that Anwar was a figure well known and respected in Indonesia.
Anwar, who uploaded a video of him taking the call on his Facebook, thanked Jokowi and said he hoped economies ties, culture and friendship between both sides would be heightened.
"We also hope to resolve several outstanding issues, including labour in the best possible manner," he said, adding that the friendship between both countries must be strengthened.
