KUALA KRAI:The Kelantan Wildlife and National Parks Department has deployed a ranger team to check on elephant rampages at Kampung Mambong here recently.
Its director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said the team was sent to the village after the department received the reports two weeks ago.
He added the reports were lodged by the affected villagers who claimed that a few elephants entered their smallholdings and destroyed their plants.
"Following the reports, we have sent our ranger team to investigate the complaints.
"It is believed that the elephants entered the smallholding to look for food," he added.
He said the team was still monitoring the village and its surrounding areas.
So far, he said they did not capture any elephant.
"We suspect the jumbo has returned back to its habitat," he said.
He urged villagers to report to the department immediately if they came across any elephant in their vicinity.
