Family of siblings lodge police reports, to sue over 'sotong ride' mishap

KUALA SELANGOR: The family of two of the people injured in the "sotong ride" mishap in Puncak Alam, Shah Alam, yesterday are to sue the operator of the Fun Fair Carnival in Eco Grandeur.

The family of Noraziera Zulkiffle, 31, and 11-year-old Shah Faraza Aiefan, also lodged two police reports over the incident.

Their mother, Faizah Mat Sam, 52, claimed the operator's sheer negligence was the cause of her eldest and youngest children getting injured after being flung out of the ride.

"My youngest sustained injuries to his left eye and left leg whereas Noraziera was injured in the head.

"The incident could have been avoided if the operator had followed the rules and regulations. This is negligence on their part and we have decided to sue them for it," she said when met at the family home in Jalan Kenari, Kampung Bukit Kuching in Jeram, here, today.

Faizah said the family has lodged two police reports, one at the Jeram police station and the other at the Kuala Selangor police headquarters last night.

Recalling yesterday's event, she said both victims had invited her to join them for the fair but she declined because she was having knee pain.

"Shah Faraz, Noraziera, two more siblings and my son-in-law left the house about 7pm. I kept feeling a bit uneasy the whole time but wasn't sure why, until I got the call about the incident. Thank god they are alive," she said.

Faizah said the two who were rushed to the Shah Alam Hospital by ambulance and are reported to be in stable condition.

"Most likely they will be discharged today," she said.

Earlier it was reported that the carnival operator had been operating without approval.

District council president Rahilah Rahmat when contacted said the fun fair did not have a permit to operate.

She said the operator had been told to halt all operations on Nov 29 but still continued to operate illegally.
