KUALA LUMPUR: A somber air enveloped SJKC Mun Choong here, with flowers left at the gates as tribute following the involvement of several of the school staff in the deadly Batang Kali landslide.
One of the bouquets contained a handwritten note with the words, 'Deepest condolences to all departed souls'.
It is learnt that the flowers were left at the school signage near Gate A, since morning.
No less than 23 people from the school, seven of them teachers as well as their friends and families, had joined a camping trip to the Father's Organic Farm on Friday.
All seven teachers were women. The school's Parents-Teachers Association yesterday said the trip was an unofficial one.
They had been camping there since Wednesday and were supposed to have left on Saturday morning.
However, the campsite was hit by a landslide around 2am.
It has so far claimed 21 lives, with 12 people still missing.
It remains unknown whether any of the deceased comprised members of the school staff.
The authorities yesterday mounted a search and rescue (SAR) mission, which was halted around 4am. It resumed around 7.30am today.
The SAR efforts have been split into three zones - Sector A Hill View, Sector B, Farm View, and Sector C Riverside, with the focus now given to Sectors B and C.
