Leo and Reed, the unsung heroes of the police K9 unit

BATANG KALI: The landslide tragedy's search and rescue (SAR) operation entered the fifth day today. It has been a coordinated effort by man, animal and machine to locate the nine missing victims.

Apart from the determination, will, and strength of the officers and personnel from various government agencies to look for the victims, there are "others" who work tirelessly for the same reason.

Since the first day (Dec 16), police have deployed six tracker dogs from the K9 unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), two of whom are Leo (black colour) and Reed (brown colour).

Last night (Dec 19), the police Facebook page put up a post paying tribute to the half a dozen dogs of the K9 unit who have been working hand in hand alongside their handlers and other personnel in looking for the remaining victims.

From Leo and Reed's expressions, the duo are determined, despite the fatigue experienced by these unsung heroes, to ensure that the nine remaining victims can be found as soon as possible.

"Salute and respect for Leo and Reed! Thank you for your devotion and exemplary service to the nation," the post stated.
