Man claims bear dug up and ate wife's corpse

GUA MUSANG: Some 100 Orang Asli from the Temiar tribe were frightened when a bear suddenly appeared in Kampung Dakoh, Pos Balar.

On Dec 27, village residents claimed that a bear dug up Amek Along, 48, and ate the flesh of the body.

Mazlan Aluij, 50, who is Amek's husband said he realised that his wife's grave had been dug up by a wild animal at around 9.20am.

He said his wife passed away due to stroke and was buried in the Kampung Dakoh area graveyard on Dec 1.

"The distance between his house and the graveyard was only about 300m. Before this, it was our routine to visit the graveyard and clean it.

"I visit the graveyard to clean it with my son on Dec 26 and suddenly I noticed footprints and bear excrement in the area where my late wife was buried.

"The next day, I brought the village residents along to check the area. We found that Amek's body was eaten by a wild bear and it was roaming around the graveyard," he said when meet here.

Mazlan said that he immediately made a police report at the Gua Musang police station to prevent the incident from recurring.

"The wild bear that was roaming around my backyard also attacked a pet dog, so we made a complaint to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) to take immediate action.

"According to our practices, the body of a deceased person should not be moved and should be left there," he said.

Last week, it was reported that more than 200 Orang Asli residents of Kampung Perawas, Pos Balar, were terrified when a wild bear was spotted near their village.
