KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry is still waiting for the report on the track structural damage of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) service involving the Ampang Line near Bandaraya station.
Its Minister Anthony Loke said Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail) engineers were assessing the structural issues to determine whether it would be safe to resume service.
"We are still waiting for the report and I cannot give assurance regarding when it will be back in operation.
"We will make further announcement after we receive the report, maybe in a day or two.
"Give space for the engineers to look at the issues for now," he said.
Loke told this to reporters after attending the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) Chinese New Year celebration today.
Gracing the event were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, several ministers, deputies, ambassadors, ACCCIM office bearers, as well as corporate and organisation leaders.
Loke said although he acknowledged that the closure of the station would cause inconvenience to the users, trains and commuters' safety were essential and must be prioritised.
"That is the most important," he added.
As such, Loke advised those using the Ampang LRT Line to plan their journey.
Yesterday, the Light Rail Transit (LRT) service on the Ampang-Sri Petaling route was disrupted over safety factors after the track alignment was found to be kinked near the Bandaraya LRT Station.
Rapid Rail in a Facebook posting said preliminary checks found that the LRT service delay was caused by damage to the flyover structure carrying the rail tracks due to construction work adjacent to the area.
