GEORGE TOWN: A container barge, which almost capsized due to a leak in the waters off the Penang and Kedah border, was rescued by a tugboat this afternoon.
The incident is believed to have happened in the waters off the Kuala Muda estuary.
All eight workers on board escaped without any injury.
A spokesman for the Penang Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency said the incident happened about 12.55pm.
He said the Namthong 27 barge from Kantang, Thailand, was carrying the cargo container and headed towards Penang Port before it suffered a leak.
"A tug boat was immediately sent to the location following the emergency call and the barge was safely towed to the port.
"All the containers in the barge were also salvaged in good condition," he added.
A video recording of the incident, believed to have been recorded by the fisherman, have since gone viral on social media.
It has since garnered 1,100 likes and 129 shares.
The video has been watched by some 35,900 Facebook users.
