KOTA KINABALU: Family members fulfilled the wish of Laini Sukat to donate her organs after she died in a road accident.
Sabah Health director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin said the 60-year-old become the second person this year to donate her organs after being pronounced dead at Ranau Hospital.
"The family has informed the hospital that the deceased had intended to donate her organs when she passed away and all her immediate family members supported the desire.
"The case was then referred to the Sabah Transplant Resource Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hospital for suitability assessment, logistics management and donation coordination.
"The donation of a pair of corneas was completed at Queen's Hospital Elizabeth. The cornea transplant surgery was also successfully carried out on two transplant recipients at the hospital," she said.
Dr Rose Nani said the department extended its condolences and gratitude to Laini's family.
"The Sabah State Health Department expresses its appreciation to the Ranau police and the Sabah State Court for their cooperation in making this medico-legal case a success.
"We are also calling on the public to register as organ donors through the MySejahtera application and inform their immediate family members of their noble wish."
