Unity govt ministers must inform Sarawak govt before visiting state

KUCHING: Ministers from the federal unity government who intend to conduct working visits to Sarawak are required to inform the state government of their schedule in advance.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said they also need to detail each project planned by their respective ministries for the state.

He said this was in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recommendation that all ministers comply with Sarawak government protocols and cooperate with local leaders in the implementation of projects.

"The advance notice is also to enable the Sarawak government to organise and coordinate properly so that their visit can be carried out in the right area.

"State government officials also need to know the purpose of the visit and what projects are to be implemented," he said in a press conference after the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) supreme council meeting at the party's headquarters, here today.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof, who is also PBB senior vice president, and PBB deputy presidents Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari said the meeting also discussed federal projects under RM50 million, which the Sarawak government is allowed to entirely manage.

"Many projects such as education and health facilities as well as rural road infrastructure worth under RM50 million will be implemented with an allocation of RM4 billion from the federal government," he said.

He said the meeting also decided that PBB would hold a special convention in conjunction with Sarawak's 60th independence anniversary.

The convention will be held in three zones namely the south, central, and north, with the date yet to be decided on.
