Penampang health clinic construction to start next year

PENAMPANG: The construction of a Class 3 health clinic in the district is expected to start next year, said Penampang member of parliament Datuk Ewon Benedick.

Ewon, who is also Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development minister, said he had met with with Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa and other officials from the ministry yesterday to discuss the delayed construction of the clinic.

He stressed that it was important to expedite the construction to provide health services and treatment to the people of Penampang, adding that the Sabah Public Works Department will manage the project procurement process through a tender this year.

"I have stressed to the Health Ministry that construction must begin next year, as soon as the tender acquisition process is completed this year. The tender acquisition process is expected to take up to six months," Ewon said in a statement today.

He added that the health clinic project is one of the agendas that he had put forward in the High Impact Project Monitoring Committee in Penampang, along with other projects such as the new Tamu Donggongon building, the Pan Borneo project, school projects, and flood control.

"I am committed to ensuring that the projects promised to the people of Penampang, as well as several new projects such as entrepreneurship hubs, can be implemented in this term."

Yesterday, Dr Zaliha visited several hospitals in Kota Kinabalu and Papar, and is expected to pay a courtesy visit to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor today.
