CYBERJAYA: A food delivery service platform with halal status can strengthen Malaysia's position as a Halal hub at the global level, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Nai'im Mokhtar.
He said the 'bekal by foodpanda' service introduced by foodpanda Malaysia is an important step in strengthening Malaysia's position in the economic arena based on Halal services that will benefit the people of this country.
"This initiative will open a new chapter in the Halal food delivery ecosystem in Malaysia and it is hoped that it will be followed by other delivery companies," he said at the launching of the platform here yesterday.
He said the food delivery service was the first in the country to be recognised as Halal by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).
Bekal by foodpanda received Halal certification in Dec last year and now offers delivery of food from Halal vendors around Putrajaya. The delivery service will be extended to all areas in the Klang Valley by July this year.
Meanwhile, chief executive officer of DHE Logistics Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Sayantan Das, said the platform's food couriers are equipped with special delivery bags for Halal products, and they are also given special training on Halal and Sertu (Syariah cleansing) awareness.
"We ensure that every delivery is made in compliance with Halal principles, without the risk of (Halal) food being contaminated by non-Halal food," he said. – Bernama
