Wee: Take action against airlines displaying inaccurate airfares

KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry and the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) have been urged to investigate and take action against airline companies which display inaccurate information on their airfare booking applications.

Former transport minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong made the call in response to his successor Anthony Loke's statement to the former's earlier claims economy class flight tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau on April 20 soared as high as RM3,138.

"Since I have been called out by YB Anthony Loke for not checking before making a FB (Facebook) post, here's the proof to back up my post.

"These are three separate phones using the (Airasia) Super App at the same time at 3.30pm today on April 16.

""They all show the same economy class (for the) KUL-TWU (Kuala Lumpur-Tawau route) fare displaying RM3,138. So, am I still wrong?"

The social media posting was accompanied by pictures of three mobile phones displaying the result of airfare for the Kuala Lumpur-Tawau route using the Super App.

"I urge the MOT (Transport Ministry) and Mavcom to look into why, at the moment, when Malaysia Airlines website shows only business class tickets available, other apps continue to list it as economy class tickets including KUL-TWU route for RM3,138?

"What's the issue here? Is there another illicit 'super app' showing the wrong information? Who is pre-booking such economy (class flight) tickets and who is profiteering?"

Earlier, in a separate social media posting, Loke said he had reached out to Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) group chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail, who clarified that there appeared to be a misunderstanding

.

"Izham clarified that for that date, all economy flight tickets for the Kuala Lumpur-Tawau route are sold out. The only tickets left are those for business class.

"He also stressed that the aforementioned price was not for economy class, but instead business class seats. He said the prices were actually RM2,863.40 and not RM3,138," Loke said.
