Influencer aghast at delivery rider's antics

KUALA LUMPUR: An influencer was gobsmacked when a Lalamove delivery rider threatened to withhold his pets' medication unless he paid extra for the "unpaid" delivery.

The influencer, @CeddyOrNot on Twitter, tweeted about his unpleasant encounter

He said he had arranged for his vet to send his pets' medication to his office, but when his staff went to collect the package from the rider, they were told that the sender (the vet) had not made the payment.

The rider then demanded payment from Ceddy's staff before handing over the medication.

He expressed his shock, saying, "The rider had the NERVE! My staff had no choice but to pay because she was afraid."

The situation took a more troubling turn when he discovered that the rider had returned to the vet's office, falsely claiming that the recipients (Ceddy and his staff) had refused to pay.

The rider then demanded compensation from the vet, despite clear evidence of payment on the Lalamove app.

"I immediately reported him through the app as soon as I learnt about this. He was suspended and then begged both the vet and I to retract the report, and even transferred our money back," Ceddy said.

It was also discovered that the rider had used someone else's MyKad (belonging to a woman) to register as a Lalamove rider. Ceddy inferred that the swift suspension indicated a prior record of misconduct.

Ceddy's revelation prompted others to share their own negative experiences with the company's delivery service. Some recounted instances where riders ran off with their items and others faced issues of overcharging.

"I had a similar experience recently. My supplier had already made the payment, but the delivery person asked my staff to pay again. Well, I just consider it bad luck," said Twitter user @MRifaaie.

"Ceddy, that's true. My friend often uses Lalamove. They have already paid, but the delivery person told the recipient that payment hadn't been made, resulting in double charges. And on top of that, the rider asked for a slight increase in payment because it supposedly wasn't enough," said @hannahorked.

Another user mentioned that the food ordered by her customer for an open house event went missing.

"The value of the food was around RM500. The delivery runner was completely unreachable. The food was supposed to be delivered to Kajang, but the app's tracking showed that the runner was still in the Batu Caves area. Even the runner's backup contact, his wife, was also unreachable," @maszuzu commented under the post.
