BACHOK: Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) top scorer Muhammad Syahril Saidi, whose mother died recently, will be awarded the Yayasan Kelantan Darul Naim (YAKIN) scholarship.
Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob delivered the good news to Syahril during a short visit to the teenager's house in Kampung Kandis here.
Ahmad said the scholarship would allow Syahril to further his studies either locally or abroad.
"He is a pious student who obeyed his parents and is persistent in seeking excellence in education.
"May he be an example to others and always be blessed by Allah... InsyaAllah (God willing)," Ahmad said in a Facebook post today.
Yesterday, Syahril who scored 11As in the examination, said he has received 10 offers to further his studies at the tertiary level and 10 offers of scholarship from various agencies and non-governmental organisations.
However, the teenager said has yet to decide on which offers he will accept and will perform a special prayer to help him decide.
Syahril's mother Faridah Ismail, 54, died on Saturday night and was buried at a cemetery in Kampung Padang Lati.
Faridah fell sick in 2019 and her children, who had lost their father seven years ago, had been taking care of her.
Syahril's story went viral when he could not collect his SPM results as he was busy caring for his bedridden mother.
This led his teachers from Sekolah Menengah Ugama (A) Darul Iman, Beris Lalang to go to his house to deliver the results.
