Nurses' uniform 'showing body shape', not shariah-compliant - PN MP

KUALA LUMPUR: A Perikatan Nasional member of parliament (MP) today has raised an issue regarding nurses' uniforms.

When debating the Health White Paper in Dewan Rakyat, Kuantan MP Wan Razali Wan Nor described the current dress code for nurses as "showing their body shape" and not being shariah-compliant.

"I would like to ask if we are going to keep following the Western mould for nurses' uniforms.

"Can't it be changed and some relaxations on the dress code be given in relation to nurses," he said.

Wan Razali also pointed out that Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan and Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre in Kuantan, Pahang provided options for nurses in terms of attire.

"Congratulations (to the two health facilities) for giving options to the nurses, when it comes to the work dress code."
