Air force cadet killed, 2 instructors wounded in grenade blast during training

KUALA LUMPUR: A Royal Malaysian Air Force cadet was killed and two instructors wounded when a hand grenade exploded during a training session at the Syed Sirajuddin camp in Gemas today.

The RMAF headquarters confirmed the incident, saying that the 12.10pm incident saw the trainee killed and the two instructors having to be rushed to Gemas Military Hospital where they received treatment before being transferred to the Segamat Hospital.

"RMAF has contacted the next of kin of all three and has handed over investigations of the case to the police. At the same time, RMAF will set up a board of investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

"RMAF urges all quarters not to speculate about the incident and to let the investigation process by the police take its course, as well as to respect the sensitivities of the families of the air force personnel involved," it said in a statement.
