KUALA LUMPUR: The Central Agency for Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (Puspal) has been directed to provide a list of improvements that need to be made on its policy for stage performers.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said Puspal will need to list out improvements to the policy to prevent a recurrance of the Good Vibes Festival (GVF) incident.
"I have asked Puspal to provide the ministry a list of improvements or clarifications regarding applications for performers that must be done to prevent something like this from happening again," he told reporters after the presentation of 'Watikah Komuniti Madani' to recipients at the Pantai Eco Park Community Centre in Kampung Pasir here today.
He said Puspal had rejected The 1975 from performing in Sepang last month, but the decision was later appealed by the GVF organisers.
"Puspal had explained to me that they had initially rejected The 1975's participation from performing in June.
"The organisers sent a plea letter. There was then an 'Aku Janji' (pledge) signed by the band's manager in July (this month) for them to be fully responsible during the concert.
"I think the guidelines presented by Puspal were very clear but as you can see, the incident was very biadab (rude) and we took the appropriate action against it."
Fahmi said although guidelines were given to the band, and a pledge was given to adhere to them, they disregarded what was agreed upon.
After the chaos, Puspal revealed in a statement today that the British band was banned from performing in the country and it lodged a police report against the band and the festival's organisers, Future Sound Asia, over their negligence and failure to comply with the terms set by the committee.
The festival was scheduled to go on for another two days before being cancelled shortly by the government.
