Perak govt will now manage Lenggong Valley heritage site

LENGGONG: The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, through the National Heritage Department, today handed over the management of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) World Heritage Site of Lenggong Valley to the Perak government.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said he hoped that the site would be better managed under the state government.

"In terms of finance, the state government can apply to the federal government for the allocation," he said after closing the Warisan@Lenggong programme at the 11th anniversary of the Lenggong Valley Unesco World Heritage Site and cultural arts festival at Dataran Lenggong here today.

At the event, Tiong presented the Lenggong Valley Unesco World Heritage Site management certificate to Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

He also announced an allocation of RM5 million for the state government to promote Visit Perak Year 2024.

Saarani, in his speech, expressed his appreciation to the Lenggong District Council for preserving the world heritage site.

"Well done and congratulations to the National Heritage Department, Tourism Perak Management Bhd and all parties who never tire of organising heritage and cultural programmes."

Saarani said he greatly appreciated the efforts of various parties in preserving Lenggong Valley.

He said Visit Perak Year 2024 would focus on heritage, food and eco-tourism.

"The state government, through Tourism Perak, has carried out tourism promotion efforts locally and abroad to make Visit Perak Year 2024 a success.

"The variety of tourism products in Perak, including the Lenggong Valley World Heritage Site and Lenggong Geopark, will be highlighted to attract more tourists to the state," he said. --BERNAMA
