IPOH: The Perak opposition leader, Razman Zakaria, has been labelled as 'mischievous' for making a statement that Pas Perak is ready to offer cooperation with Umno to realise the dominance and power of the Malay-Islam unity in Perak.
Razman's statement follows the results of the recent six state elections of which Perak was not involved.
Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, stated that such statements, however, do not disrupt the stability of the unity government formed in Perak between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN), as the recent state election results did not show a sweeping victory for Perikatan Nasional (PN).
He also admonished the opposition to refrain from making irresponsible statements that could undermine investor confidence in Perak. Instead, they should accept the results of the previous election and allow the unity government of BN-PH to govern and develop the state.
"This is a mischievous attempt by the Perak opposition leader, who is also my friend. We must remember that these state election results have no direct connection to the state of Perak or even the federation. Furthermore, PN did not win 6-0, but only maintained its existing position.
"If the opposition leader and his party truly care for the state, they should acknowledge that there are four more years before the general election (GE). So, give the current unity government a chance to govern.
"In these next four years, if he truly cares for the state and the people, he shouldn't cause unrest among the people. If he's genuine, then he should refrain from making irresponsible statements," he said to reporters during the Mesra Customer Engagement Programme for the Perak State Government 2023, Series 7, at the Indera Mulia Stadium here today.
On Aug 14, Razman announced that Pas Perak is ready to offer cooperation with Umno to realise the dominance of the Malay-Islam unity in Perak following the results of the recent six state elections.
In his statement, Razman called on the Umno state leaderships that can position the power of the Malay-Islam unity and sovereignty, including Perak, Negri Sembilan and Pahang to cater to the demands and needs of the people. He alleged that the recent state election results, particularly from Malay voters, signalled a rejection of the incumbent government.
Razman stated that Umno could now be a 'kingmaker,' determining the position of Malay power. He also claimed that the grassroots of Umno were urging the party to return to its original fight for Malays, founded by past leaders, as evident from the state election results.
