Phone explodes while charging, teen swears never to make same mistake again

KULIM: A teenager has vowed that he will never charge his mobile phone while he is sleeping because of what happened to him recently where it exploded and caught fire though he was lucky enough to escape unscathed and live to tell the tale.

"I am never ever going to charge my mobile phone while sleeping because of what happened to me recently and I have been left traumatised where I am having difficulties even just to sleep in my own room," said Muhammad Irfan Aiman Mohd Sobri.

Muhammad Irfan Aiman, 16, reacted in such a manner when he shared in a video that has gone viral on TikTok how lucky he was to escape unhurt and unharmed after his mobile phone exploded and caught fire in the wee hours of Wednesday morning (Aug 30) after he had left it to charge while he was fast asleep.

The video has garnered a lot of attention after his sister, Nurain Najihah Mohd Sobri, 21 uploaded a video regarding what had happened on TikTok where it has garnered more than 1.1 million views.

Speaking about what happened, Muhammad Irfan Aiman said that he did not realise that his mobile phone had exploded and caught fire because when it happened he was fast asleep.

"On the day that the incident happened, I had charged my mobile phone on my bed as I fell asleep on the floor.

"I did not realise anything had happened until sometime around 5am, this also only after my sister woke me up.

"At the time, the room was full of smoke and thankfully I was able to get out almost immediately to save myself and not end up suffocating or suffering much worse," said Muhammad Irfan Aiman when he was contacted by Harian Metro.

Muhammad Irfan Aiman said that he is very lucky that he is still alive and that the fire was not big and nor did it spread.

"Alhamdulillah, Allah SWT protected me but what has happened is a lesson for me not to charge the mobile phone while sleeping or using it," said Muhammad Irfan Aiman, who used the mobile phone for more than two years.

Meanwhile his sister, Nurain Najihah said that her intention in sharing the video about what happened to her younger brother on TikTok was as a warning and reminder to others about the dangers of charging a mobile phone while sleeping.

"I never thought it would go viral because I shared the video so that others would be more careful and not make the same mistake.

"This is because the incident has already happened to my younger brother and I do not want it to happen to anyone else.

"So far, no one has criticised, however many have shared that they also do the same thing of charging their mobile phones while sleeping and that they want to change for the better because they do not want anything untoward to happen," she said.
