Voters start arriving to cast votes for Simpang Jeram by-election [NSTTV]

MUAR: Voters have begun arriving at SJKC Pei Chai, one of the 14 polling centres in Simpang Jeram ahead of the by-election today.

The Election Commission (EC) is expecting a voter turnout of more than 70 per cent.

Its chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, said if this target was achieved, it would surpass the voter turnout recorded in the six state elections on Aug 12.

The Simpang Jeram by-election is set to see a three-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan's Nazri Abdul Rahman, Perikatan Nasional's Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya and independent candidate S. Jeganathan.

The by-elections in the state assembly seat of Simpang Jeram and the parliamentary seat of Pulai was triggered following the demise of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who was also the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, on July 23.
