Jeli MP ready to take legal action against slanderers

JELI: Jeli member of parliament from Bersatu Zahari Kechik has refuted allegations of bribery in relation to his recent endorsement of the Prime Minister's government.

He denied the allegation, claiming that he had never received such an offer or been approached by "political brokers" to modify his decision.

"I would like to emphasise that the assertions made by certain persons, including my party members, that I was coerced to support the Prime Minister and his administration are false.

"I am willingly supporting the unity government because it is in my constituents' best interest to do so.

"I have instructed my lawyer to monitor all posts and statements on social media from now on.

"I'm warning them. Should their statements contain any indication that they mentioned my name, I shall not hesitate to initiate legal proceedings against any individual who accuses me of being coerced or bribed," he stated at a press conference held today.

Zahari, who is also a lawyer, denied there were any threats or inducements towards him.

"I would like to reiterate that I did this for the sole benefit of my people and for no other motives.

"My objective is to conclude the four remaining years by providing the highest quality of service to my constituents. Over the past year, I have done little to assist them," he added.

Asked whether he had received the government's allocation, Zahari said he received RM300,000 yesterday. It will go towards the constituents.

"Since the flood season is approaching, I will use the funds to provide sustenance and other forms of aid to flood victims.

Zahari became the second MP from Kelantan who declared support for the Madani government on Nov 8. The other was Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim.
