KUALA LUMPUR: The British rock band Coldplay is pro-Palestine, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
When asked about the government's stance on allowing the concert by the band, he said that the band supports Palestine and that the past government's have also approved the concerts without any issues.
He said that he will speak to Federal Territories Mufti Datuk Dr Luqman Abdullah over his stance on the band's concert scheduled to be held tomorrow.
"I will discuss with the mufti because there are lobbyists from the Palestinian movement who support and give views to the Foreign Ministry and to my office asking why the calls for the groups supporting the Palestinian cause are prohibited from continuing the show.
"Since there are some other issues that we do not agree on, I will discuss that again," he said today.
He was responding to a supplementary question by Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) on the government's stance on the Coldplay concert following a statement issued by Federal Territories Mufti recently.
The Mufti reportedly discouraged people to attend and called for cancellation of The Coldplay: Music of Spheres Concert as it supports lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT) movement.
Muslim Scholars Association of Malaysia (PUM) also called for the cancellation of the concert.
