Pas MP: Cancelling Coldplay concert about curbing culture of hedonism [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Pasir Mas member of parliament Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the issue regarding the Coldplay: Music Of The Spheres World Tour In Kuala Lumpur concert tomorrow goes beyond the group's support for Palestine.

The Pas information chief said the issue was more about the culture of hedonism brought by the band into the country.

"As the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) mentioned earlier on the Coldplay issue, he stated that the band gave its support to Palestine.

"Yes, it's not just an issue of supporting Palestine or not, but an issue of the culture of hedonism that the band wants to bring into our society.

"I think that in the frenzy of the Palestinian issue that exists today, it is not an appropriate time to bring an international group into our country," he said in Dewan Rakyat today.

Anwar previously stated that he would hold a discussion with Federal Territories Mufti Datuk Dr Luqman Abdullah regarding the organisation of the Coldplay concert, following calls from some parties for the concert to be cancelled.

He said, there was also a dispute from lobbyists regarding the call because Coldplay was said to be one of the groups that support Palestine.

Commenting further, Ahmad Fadhli said youths should avoid getting involved in the culture of hedonism.

"Furthermore, this group of international musicians is involved in openly supporting LGBT issue and this is unacceptable.

"Youths should avoid getting involved in things like this, in light of the Mr H video controversy and so on.

"I think this is the time for them to be reminded of this," he said.

Meanwhile, commenting on the insinuation made by Kampar member of parliament Chong Zhemin on why the Kelantan state government did not boycott Mercedes Benz, Ahmad Fadhli responded by saying that some things could not be boycott.

"There are things we cannot afford to boycott. For example iPhone, Facebook and so on. Whatever we can boycott, we should boycott.

"Don't underestimate the people who want to carry out this boycott," he said.

Chong yesterday questioned why the Kelantan government still uses luxury cars made by Mercedes Benz which also contributed to Israel's economy.
