KUALA LUMPUR: An opposition member of parliament today urged the Community Communications Department (J-KOM) to be placed under the Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD).
Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan (PN-Tasek Gelugor) said this after the agency, which is placed under the Prime Minister's Department (JPM), was seen as less effective in conveying information to the public.
Even more, Wan Saiful said it even caused some controversy involving its top leadership.
"We see that J-KOM, in terms of its role, has failed, including allegations of misconduct which we know as the A&W (Agus and Wahab) scandal.
"Why not take over J-KOM which is already under JPM and place it under KKD to save expenses," he said in Dewan Rakyat today.
On Nov 16, J-KOM director-general, Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff tendered his resignation.
Agus justified his resignation by claiming he had received offers from local and international organisations needing his services.
Wan Saiful also questioned why Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is keeping quiet over the scandal involving the two J-KOM staff when the department was placed under JPM.
"Until today, the prime minister, who appointed Agus himself, has not commented on the issue."A video call recording between Agus and another J-KOM officer, Abdul Wahab Abdul Kadir recently went viral.
It is alleged to have been edited by some irresponsible parties.
This was admitted by Abdul Wahab in a press conference with Agus, who claimed that he took instructions from a Mr H, who made him an 'offer' in exchange for the video.
