MAIWP channels RM360K agro aid for Hydroponic innnovation, entrepreneurial growth

LABUAN: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has channelled an allocation of RM360,000.00 to the Labuan South Area Farmers' Organisation.

MAIWP acting chief executive officer, Datuk Mohd Nizam Yahya, said the funding aimed to propel the construction and development of six Hydroponic Green Houses, each measuring 70ft x 18ft.

"These greenhouses are strategically located on MAIWP-owned land and are operated by six selected asnaf (zakat recipients), it is a collaborative effort between MAIWP and PPKS, and extends beyond mere infrastructure.

"It encompasses comprehensive initiatives such as planting courses, financial management training, crop success monitoring, and marketing activities," he said at the launching of Hydroponic Garden at Kg Sg Buton here, today (December 1).

He said the Hydroponic Green Houses were equipped with state-of-the-art Hydroponic systems, including piping, water tanks, fertilisers, shelves, nursery trays, wiring, seeds, pots, and electric water pumps.

"With a capacity to accommodate 2000 hydroponic reservoir pots each, these greenhouses are poised to revolutionise agricultural practices," said Mohd Nizam.

He said this forward-thinking venture not only contributed to technological innovation in agriculture, but also served a broader purpose – fostering entrepreneurship within the asnaf community.

In addition to the cutting-edge infrastructure, all six agricultural entrepreneurs (asnaf) were given a set of agricultural equipment, valued at a total of RM2,000.

Mohd Nizam said this holistic approach by MAIWP reflected a commitment to empower the asnaf group by boosting their potential in the entrepreneurial sector while ensuring sustained success in their agricultural endeavors. — Bernama
