KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Chan Foong Hin has vowed to give his all in his capacity as the new Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister.
Chan said the appointment was a huge surprise and he learnt about it during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement broadcasted live earlier today.
"Many thanks to the Prime Minister for his trust and the new responsibility entrusted to me by the most honourable Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"I, Chan Foong Hin, will do my best and work hard as the Plantation and Commodities deputy minister for the sake of nation building.
"I welcome this responsibility with an open heart and ready for any sort of challenges.
"I will shoulder this trust and responsibility to my best and give excellent service to Malaysians," he said in a Facebook post.
Chan, who was previously deputy Agriculture and Food Security minister, said he was thankful for the guidance and assistance rendered by minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
He added he had learnt a lot from his previous portfolio in the past year and he had informed Mohamad that his departure was not a forever goodbye.
"I thank the leaders and staff of the ministry for their service and cooperation shown to me. The ministerial team is solid and great.
"I want to apologise if there were any mistakes made during my tenure," he said.
Earlier, Anwar announced Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani as minister while Chan will be his deputy.
