Electricity tariff hike: Here's how much more you need to pay

KUALA LUMPUR: The removal of a two sen a kilowatt hour (kWh) rebate for households spending at least RM220 a month on electricity will see consumers' electricity bill go up by at least RM12 from Jan 1, to June 30, 2024 .

Households that spend RM220.36 a month on their electricity bill will see it go up to RM232.38.

Meanwhile, households that spend RM737.50 a month will see their bill go up to RM768.58 for the January to June period next year.

The move by the government to remove subsidies for 1.2 million households who consume between 601 kWh and 1,5000 kWh of electricity a month is part of the government's move towards targeted subsidies.

It will result in a 4.2 to 6 per cent hike, translating to a potential monthly rise of RM12 to RM32 for affected users.

The good news, however, is that if your monthly charges fall below RM219,80, there won't be any changes to your bill, as the government has maintained the two sen per kwh rebate for 600 kWh and below users.
